MI trade show offers glimpse of the newest of the new
WELCOME TO sunny southern California! Er, well… not exactly. NAMM show week in Anaheim was a chilly, wet affair effectively putting the damper on the show’s big plans for its new outdoor promenade leading to the main entrance. The stage was set the morning of Day 1, but stood empty. The weather would eventually break and allow a scheduled run of concerts, including the first evening’s headliner Tower of Power. But what happens outside plays second fiddle to the happenings indoors.
The 2013 Winter NAMM show may go down as the best we’ve attended in the past half-decade. The mood was upbeat. The halls buzzed with instruments… and more importantly, business. Buyers made Thursday one of the busiest in recently memory according to many veteran show vendors.
Overall attendance for the 2013 show was down slightly from the previous year, chiefly due to NAMM cracking down on the number of ‘guests’ allowed. Buyer numbers were up 4% and non-industry guests down 16%. The number of registered attendees for 2013 was 93,908. New exhibitors accounted for 20% of the exhibiting companies at the show, with another 118 companies returning to the show after more than a year off.
But, it’s not all about business of course. Dive into the notebook and we’ll show you some of the goodies you may have missed.
